I know it was supposed to be tongue in cheek, but jeez...

The ONLY good part was right at the very end when the VOICE intones, "The WANDERERS are coming", to which Toni Kalem's pleading reply (lifted from the film's intro) is: "Not yet..."

Heh.Russhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06018270837212714581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109073679101688906.post-60993311578793480012009-12-22T22:21:00.861-05:002009-12-22T22:21:00.861-05:00The Wanderers has some interesting homoerotic subt...The Wanderers has some interesting homoerotic subtext throughout, notably in Turkey's encounter with the Ducky Boys, and the sorta-subtle-but-ok-not-really scenes between Joey and Perry. Actually, those were pretty blatant.

Like Y², I also love this film. Dolph Sweet is a hoot in this, but he just contributes to one of several magical cinema moments in Kaufman's ode to that most inoxicating of nostalgic blends, the Sixties.

And yes, that classroom bit is more bluntly honest than any other high school scene you can find pretending to be sincere today.

STOP READING ---> SEE MOVIE.

Good stuff.Russhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06018270837212714581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109073679101688906.post-10209182450670006632009-12-21T20:11:15.308-05:002009-12-21T20:11:15.308-05:00They were in real life as well. The just weren't called the Ducky boys but a bad ass Irish Gang.
The movie caught the tail end of the 50's gang culture- it was only a year later that people started to experiment with drugs (all kinds) and the fighting stopped. Everyone was more interested in getting High.
The end of the film was the best. a fork in the road and he chose not to move forward but to stay behind where he was more comfortable. Much respect to wiec?, but I'll take the Wanderers over The Warriors any day of the week.

And in my opinion, the Ducky Boys are still the most terrifying gang ever portrayed on film.

--J/MetroAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109073679101688906.post-22781898348434480722009-12-21T00:16:24.396-05:002009-12-21T00:16:24.396-05:00J. He let us borrow the DVD for our 70s consensus. He lived it as well.
This was a much better film than "The Warriors.
A little history though- One reason the film didn't do so well had to do with the fact that there were fights that broke out in theater's where the Warriors was playing and the studio was concered that the same would happen when The Wanderer started to play.
RogerRogerPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03706318639004831714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9109073679101688906.post-18354325219442485992009-12-18T23:02:39.997-05:002009-12-18T23:02:39.997-05:00Aw, GREAT choice.
